DOMINO THE DOG (2008-2010)
Created for Manic Monkey
Maya. Photoshop. Rendered in VRay

Domino a main character in Little Bridge and in the other language products. The name Domino was chosen as it is the same in French and German, and possibly other languages too. As Domino is so important it was decided to have a new model made. I started out with a game model as one was needed for the Top Dog iphone app. The original Domino had an enormous head and forehead. I could'nt simply reduce this model as it had no proper edge loops and had many triangles (bad topology). The feet were also so large and round bottomed and the legs so small (especially around the ankles), it was hard to get decent poses. The mouth on the original was just a 'flap' and there were no proper edge loops running around it for deformation. The old domino had no eyelids! And for some reason we had two rigs, one which had Domino's front legs bend forward at the elbow joints (like a horse). These were all issues I tried to counter when making the new version. At the same time I had to make him look similar enough that he would be recognisable as Domino. Another member of the team textured him, he has one 512 col map with not much effort put into the shading (I wish I had textured him myself).
I rigged him using the adv.skeleton app. Had to add joints and controls for the ears, tongue, and control for face movements. Created blend shapes for facial animation. All this was completed in about a week.
He is also being made into a soft toy .
Note: The above version is less polygons and better edge loops.
