MAN FRIDAY
(2005)
Maya. Photoshop. Rendered in Maya Software
Created for a
sci-fi version of Robinson Crusoe. Modelled, Rigged and Animated
in Maya. He has Blend shapes on his face (Eyes, Nose, Lips, Eye
Brow, shown in the Close Ups above), and Driven Keys on hands
and feet.
I designed Friday
for the Escape Awards competition. I modelled Friday after the
competition had finished. He is the second character I modelled.
Some way through modelling I realised that he did n't look quite
right in realistic proportions, so I increased the size of his
head, hands and feet. I am much happier with the final result.
He now looks more comical, cartoony and...chunkier. I also changed
the eyes, which were originally black, to a more realistic version
with pupils so the viewer can see where he is looking.
If I had to create
a character again there are a number of things I would do differently.
I would make the eyes bigger, small eyes are hard to see at any
distance and a lot of expression is in the eyes. I would also
make the fingers shorter (I thought long fingers might be interesting,
perhaps like E.T. I just didnt realise they would create so many
problems when picking things up, or making a fist). I would also
model the areas between his legs and around his shoulders with
better geometery for deformation.
